Globe Strengthens Child Online Protection Efforts for Safer Internet Day 2026

MANILA, Philippines — Globe Telecom is intensifying its campaign to combat online child exploitation as part of its initiatives for Safer Internet Day 2026, reinforcing its commitment to protecting Filipino children and families from digital threats.

With the growing accessibility of internet services nationwide, concerns about Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material (CSAEM) continue to rise. Globe is expanding its cybersecurity measures and digital literacy programs to help address these risks while promoting a safer online environment for younger users.

Globe Supports National Campaign Against Online Child Exploitation

This year’s Safer Internet Day theme, “Ako, Ikaw, Tayo: Konektado at Protektado Laban sa OSAEC at CSAEM,” reflects Globe’s advocacy that safeguarding children online requires shared responsibility among telecommunications providers, families, schools, government agencies, and digital users.

The company emphasized that building a secure internet ecosystem involves not only strengthening technological safeguards but also equipping users with knowledge to identify and report harmful online activities.

“Safety in the digital space requires action on all fronts,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.

“We protect our customers through advanced filtering, real-time threat blocking, and easy-to-use reporting tools like the Globe StopSpam portal. But true protection also means education, giving every Filipino, especially the youth, the knowledge and confidence to stay safe and speak up online,” Crisanto added.

Digital Thumbprint Program Expands Youth Cyber Safety Education

As part of its long-term child online protection initiatives, Globe continues to expand its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), a nationwide campaign promoting responsible digital citizenship, data privacy awareness, and online safety education.

In 2025 alone, the program reached more than 16,560 students and educators through interactive workshops and training sessions focused on responsible internet use and child protection strategies.

Since launching in 2016, the Digital Thumbprint Program has successfully engaged nearly two million Filipino students nationwide, helping raise awareness about cyber threats, digital ethics, and safe online behavior.

The program remains one of Globe’s flagship community outreach efforts, supporting schools and communities in developing strong digital safety practices among young internet users.

Globe Enhances Cybersecurity Measures to Combat Online Threats

Beyond awareness campaigns, Globe has intensified its network security and fraud prevention systems to reduce the spread of scams, spam, and malicious content across its digital platforms.

In 2025, Globe reported blocking approximately:

  • 967 million scam and spam messages
  • 272,746 SIM cards linked to suspicious activities through its StopSpam portal
  • 17,384 malicious domains, including 8,704 illegal gambling websites

These cybersecurity efforts are part of Globe’s broader strategy to safeguard users from financial fraud, identity theft, and harmful online content.

The company continues to invest in advanced network monitoring technologies and automated filtering tools designed to detect and block emerging cyber threats in real time.

Stronger Measures Against Child Sexual Exploitation Content

Child protection remains a central focus of Globe’s digital safety advocacy. The telecommunications provider reported blocking 3,096 domains associated with child pornography and online exploitation activities.

These initiatives are supported by Globe’s US$2.7 million investment in advanced content filtering technologies, aimed at identifying and removing harmful child exploitation materials across digital channels.

The company also collaborates with government agencies and child protection organizations to strengthen reporting systems and intervention programs for victims of online abuse.

Supporting MAKABATA 1383 Child Protection Hotline

Globe continues to support MAKABATA 1383, a child protection helpline operated by the Council for the Welfare of Children. The hotline serves as a critical reporting platform for cases involving child abuse, exploitation, and online safety violations.

Through this partnership, Globe helps expand public awareness about available reporting channels while improving accessibility for children and families seeking assistance.

The initiative addresses long-standing challenges in reporting child exploitation cases, including lack of awareness, limited access to reporting platforms, and delays in intervention.

Globe Reinforces #MakeITSafe Digital Advocacy

Globe’s intensified child online protection programs form part of its broader #MakeITSafe advocacy, which integrates cybersecurity innovation, digital literacy education, and multi-sector partnerships to promote safer internet use across the Philippines.

The company continues to highlight the importance of empowering families, educators, and communities with digital safety knowledge while ensuring that its network infrastructure actively blocks harmful online activities.

By combining technological safeguards with nationwide awareness campaigns, Globe aims to build a digital environment where children can learn, communicate, and explore the internet without fear of exploitation.

Addressing Growing Online Risks in the Philippines

As internet connectivity expands across the country, experts continue to warn about the increasing vulnerability of children to online exploitation and cyber abuse.

Telecommunications providers like Globe play a critical role in strengthening online protection through policy compliance, cybersecurity investments, and collaborative child protection programs.

Through sustained efforts aligned with Safer Internet Day, Globe aims to contribute to a safer digital ecosystem where Filipino children can benefit from technology while remaining protected from emerging online risks.
